The Tampa Bay Rays learned Tuesday that second baseman Brandon Lowe will be spending more than just the minimum time on the injured list.

Lowe, who was placed on the injured list Monday, has been diagnosed with a stress reaction in his lower back according to the team.

The plan for the 27-year-old is to be shut down from baseball activities for three weeks before being re-evaluated.  At that time, the team says they will determine a timeline for his return to activities and then to the lineup.

Tampa Bay recalled infielder Isaac Paredes from Triple-A Durham, and manager Kevin Cash says they’ll use Paredes, Vidal Brujan, and Taylor Walls defensively in Lowe’s place.
