The Tampa Bay Rays made their second trade in as many days Sunday, freeing up another 40-man roster spot by trading reliever Louis Head to the Miami Marlins in exchange for a player to be named later or cash considerations.

Head was signed to a minor-league deal by the Rays just before the start of the 2021 season after being released by the Mariners when the pandemix struck in 2020.  The 31-year-old ended up making his Major League debut on April 25, and ended up appearing in 27 games, including a pair of opens, going 2-0 with a 2.31 earned run average in 12 different stints with the team.

Tampa Bay’s 40-man roster now stands at 38 players, with more moves likely to come before Friday’s deadline to add players in order to protect them from being exposed to the Rule 5 Draft.
