Thompson Placed On IL, Sherriff Back With Rays

Prior to Wednesday afternoon’s contest with the Washington Nationals, the Tampa Bay Rays placed reliever Ryan Thompson on the 10-day injured list with right shoulder inflammation.

The 29-year-old has appeared in 36 games with the Rays in 2021, amassing a 3-2 record with a 2.38 earned run average, striking out 37 in 34 innings of work and walking just nine.

To take Thompson’s place on the actice roster, left-hander Ryan Sherriff has been recalled from Triple-A Durham.
