The Tampa Bay Rays have made their seventh trade of the deadline period, moving infielder Amed Rosario to the Los Angeles Dodgers in exchange for mino-league pitcher Michael Flynn.
Rosario, signed by the Rays during Spring Training to a one-year, $1.5 million deal, had been one of the most consistent hitters in the team’s lineup all year, hitting .307/.331/.417 with two home runs and 26 RBI in 76 games while playing second base, shortstop, third base, and right field for the team.
Meanwhile Flynn, a 27-year-old right-hander, has appeared in 31 games this season between Double-A Tulsa (3 appearances) and Triple-A Oklahoma City (28 appearances), going 2-1 with a 4.25 earned run average, striking out 59 and walking 16 in 42.1 innings. He was originally deafted by Pittsburgh in the sixth round of the 2018 draft. The Pirates released him in 2021 and he spend 2022 and 2023 in the Mariners organization before signing with the Dodgers before this season. He can become a minor-league free agent at the end of the season unless the Rays add him to their 40-man roster at the end of the season.
