Phillips Returns From IL, Fairbanks Has Rotator Cuff Injury

The Rays made a pair of roster moves Friday before their opener against New York.  Reliever Pete Fairbanks was placed on the 15-day injured list with what the team is calling a rotator cuff strain in his right shoulder.

“I woke up after throwing in Boston and I tried to throw the next day and my shoulder said ‘How about we don’t do that,'” Fairbanks said Friday.  “It’s nothing too serious, should be back in action quickly, I hope.”

The 27-year-old hopes to miss no more than a month.

To take his spot on the roster, the Rays activated outfielder Brett Phillips from the 10-day injured list, and selected the contract of reliever Hunter Strickland.  To make room for Strickland on the major league roster, catcher Joseph Odom was designated for assignment.
