Mazza Called Up From Durham, Enns Sent Back Down

The rotation through the Rays pitching staff continues Friday night, as the Rays called up right-hander Chris Mazza from Triple-A Durham.

The 31-year-old reliever has appeared in ten games for the Rays this season, all in relief, with no record and a 6.16 earned run average.

To make room on the active roster for Mazza, left-hander Dietrich Enns, who worked three innings on Thursday in the win over Baltimore, was optioned to Durham.

Archer Will Start Sunday’s Finale Against Sox

The Rays announced that the expect to activate right-hander Chris Archer from the 60-day injured list to have him start Sunday’s finale against Chicago.

Archer has been out since April 10 due to bilateral forearm tightness in his right arm.  He signed a one-year, $6 million contract with the Rays in the off-season.  He made six rehab starts at Triple-A Durham, going 0-1 with a 3.86 earned run average.

Tampa Bay will have to clear a spot on both the active and 40-man roster in order to reinstate Archer.
