Rays Also Lose Springs To IL To End Road Trip
Manager Kevin Cash said after Saturday’s loss at Great American Ballpark that he expected both shortstop Wander Franco and outfielder Kevin Kiermaier to be placed on the injured list after being removed from the game, but the team also had to place pitcher Jeffrey Springs on the 15-day injured list Sunday with what they are called right lower leg tightness.
Springs has amassed a 2-2 record and a 3.00 ERA in ten starts since joining the rotation on May 9.
Left-hander Josh Fleming was recalled from Triple-A Durham to take his spot on the roster, while outfielder Luke Raley and infielder Jonathan Aranda were brought up to replace Kiermaier and Franco, respectively.
In addition, right-hander Calvin Faucher, who took the loss Saturday, was optioned to Durham, and Phoenix Sanders was recalled to add some bullpen depth.
