Rays Lose Choi To Injured List, Cruz Activated

The Tampa Bay Rays have placed first baseman Ji-mna Choi on the 10-day injured list for the third time this season, this time as he deals with recurring soreness in his left hamstring.

Choi experienced the latest bout of soreness in the first inning of Sunday’s win over the Chicago White Sox while running out a double against Reynaldo Lopez.  Choi would remain on the basepaths and score later in the inning before being replaced defensively by Yandy Diaz.

To take Choi’s spot on the active roster, designated hitter Nelson Cruz was activated from the COVID-19 related injured list.  The 41-year-old missed Sunday’s game with COVID symptoms, but tested negative for the virus.
