Rays Call Up Enns, Option Down Mazza
The Tampa Bay Rays made a change to their pitching staff prior to Tuesday night’s game, optioning right-hander Chris Mazza to Triple-A Durham, and selecting the contract of left-hander Dietrich Enns.
Mazza worked three innings in Monday’s loss to the Mariners, allowing a pair of runs on three hits, walking a two and striking out four on 56 pitches.
Enns returns to the big leagues for the first time since 2017, when he was with the Minnesota Twins. He signed with Tampa Bay in August, 2020 and spent last season working at the team’s alternate site in Port Charlotte.
In ten starts and four bulk appearances this year with the Bulls, Enns has gone 6-2 with a 2.59 ERA. In 59 innings of work, he has struck out 75 and walked just 15.
To make room on the 40-man roster for Enns, the Rays trasferred right-hander Ryan Thompson from the 10-day to the 60-day injured list.
