If you were hoping to get a chance to buy tickets to see the American League championship banner get raised at Tropicana Field, you’re out of luck.
The Tampa Bay Rays announced Monday that their home opener against the New York Yankees set for Friday at the Trop has officially been sold out. It is the 15th straight season that Opening Day in St. Petersburg has been sold out, excluding the 2020 season, which was played all year without fans.
Capacity at the stadium has been limited to around 9,000 to account for social distancing, with tickets being sold in pods of up to six seats.
The team says tickets are still available for the final two games of the series against the Yankees as well as all four games of the next series against the Texas Rangers. They can be purchased at RaysBaseball.com or through the MLB Ballpark app (available on iOS and Android).
