Luis Patino’s first start of 2022 didn’t last long, and it’s not certain when his next will come.

The Tampa Bay Rays starter left Monday night’s game against the Oakland Athletics with two outs in the first inning with a left oblique strain.

Patino had thrown a fastball to catcher Sean Murphy when he doubled over and crouched down on the mound.  Manager Kevin Cash and the training staff came out to check on Patino, and after a brief conversation, the right-hander was taken out of the game.

Right-hander Chris Mazza relieved Patino.
