The Tampa Bay Rays announced Wednesday that they have placed left-hander Shane McClanahan on the taxi squad, and that he will officially be recalled from the alternate training site Thursday, when he will start against the Oakland Athletics.

McClanahan, who turns 24 today, was the first pitcher in Major League history to make his big league debut in a postseason game when he appeared in Game 1 of the American League Division Series against the New York Yankees.  The southpaw ended up making four appearances in the postseason, posting no record and a 8.31 ERA, including a scoreless inning in Game 3 of the 2020 World Series.

The Rays will make a roster move after Wednesday’s game to make room for McClanahan.
