Kelley Returns As Cleavinger Heads To IL
The Rays Monday also placed left-handler Garrett Cleavinger on the 15-day injured list with what the team is calling a right knee sprain, suffered during a rundown play in the tenth inning of Sunday’s win over the New York Yankees.
The 29-year-old initially tried to stay in the game, but after throwing a warmup pitch, was removed from the contest.
To take Cleavinger’s spot on the active roster, right-handed Trevor Kelley was recalled from Triple-A Durham. Kelley made one appearance for Tampa Bay this season, allowing two runs on as many hits April 15 in Toronto, but has pitched to a 3.95 ERA in 11 outings with Durham this year.
