The Tampa Bay Rays announced Wednesday that closer Diego Castillo will be the newest pitcher to miss time due to injury.
Castillo was placed on the 10-day injured list retroactive to Tuesday with right groin tightness.
The 24-year-old last worked in Tuesday’s win against the Angels, pitching a scoreless ninth inning. In 14 appearances this year, Castillo has gone 0-2 with a 3.14 earned run average and seven saves in nine chances.
To take his spot on the active roster, right-hander Pete Fairbanks, who had out since April 8 with a strained rotator cuff, was activated from the 10-day injured list.
