Tampa Bay Rays manager Kevin Cash finished third in the Baseball Writers of America voting for American League Manager of the Year, announced Tuesday evening on MLB Network.
As expected, Baltimore Orioles manager Brandon Hyde, whose team finished with 101 wins and their first division title and playoff berth since 2015, took home the award, garbering 27 of the 30 first-place votes. Texas Rangers skipper Bruce Bochy finishing second. Voting was done prior to the end of the 2023 regular season.
Two writers from each American League market voted on the award, with a 5-3-1 point format. In Tampa Bay, both Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times and Adam Berry of MLB.com voted Hyde first and Cash second. Berry voted Bochy third, while Topkin used his third-place vote on Minnesota Twins skipper Rocco Baldelli.
