The Tampa Bay Rays brought back a hero from the 2020 postseason Sunday, recalling infielder Mike Brosseau from Triple-A Durham before today’s game against the Minnesota Twins.
Brosseau, who went into Rays folklore for his Game 5 homer against Aroldis Chapman in the 2020 American League Division Series, has struggled at the plate this season. In 55 games this season at the big league level, he has hit just .182/.265/.322 with four homers and 17 RBI. His numbers at Triple-A have nit been much better, as in 21 games in Dirham, he is hitting .221/.376/.294 with a homer, six RBI and 23 strikeouts in 68 at bats.
Brosseau’s recall was needed as first baseman Ji-Man Choi has been dealing with a sore hamstring, and Yandy Diaz suffered a left thumb sprain in Friday’s series opener.
To make room on the active roster for Brosseau, reliever Louis Head was optioned to Durham.
