Giving Rays The Roof Pod A Behind The Scenes Look

The guys and gals who host the Rays The Roof podcast were kind enough to invite me on for their latest episode, and we had a blast talking Rays.

We got into the series sweep against the Philadelphia Phillies and looked ahead to the weekend in Baltimore, but I also gave them a behind the scenes look at what it’s been like to cover a professional sports team in the middle of a pandemic, whether there is animosity between beat reporters, and I get blown away by Gibby’s ridiculously deep voice.

Steve Carney is the founder and publisher of St. Pete Nine. One of the people most associated with baseball coverage in Tampa Bay, he spent 13 seasons covering the Rays for flagship radio station WDAE, first as producer of Rays Radio broadcasts, then as beat reporter beginning in 2011. He likes new analytics and aged bourbon, and is the owner of one of the ugliest knuckleballs ever witnessed by baseball scouts.
