Carney on WDAE: Wacha Just Wasn’t Good Last Night

Rays pitcher Michael Wacha

Monday was a rough night for Michael Wacha and the Rays, dropping the opener to the Boston Red Sox 11-2 at Fenway Park.  Tampa Bay had a number of things go against them the last two games, and it’ll be up to the players to right the ship.

I joined the Pat & Aaron Show Tuesday afternoon to talk about the struggles of players like Rich Hill, Yoshi Tsutsugo, and Michael Wacha.  We also went into what role pitchers like Luis Patino, Shane McClanahan and Josh Fleming could have early in the season, and what might happen to outfielder Kevin Kiermaier (this segment was before the Rays made the announcement would be going to the injured list).

One of the people most associated with baseball coverage in Tampa Bay, he spent 13 seasons covering the Rays for flagship radio station WDAE, first as producer of Rays Radio broadcasts, then as beat reporter beginning in 2011. He likes new analytics and aged bourbon, and is the owner of one of the ugliest knuckleballs ever witnessed by baseball scouts.
