The Tampa Bay Rays were hoping that at some point that left-hander Brendan McKay could be available to pitch for the club, but that possibility has seemingly disappeared.
Manager Kevin Cash said Wednesday that McKay, who had been pitching with Double-A Montgomery after finishing his rehab assignment coming back from shoulder surgery in 2020, is now sidelined with an elbow injury.
Cash said the 25-year-old, who was drafted fourth overall by the Rays out of Louisville in 2017, received an injection of platelet-rich plasma in his left elbow, and would be shut down from throwing for 2-3 weeks, likely ended his 2021 campaign.
McKay had been 0-2 with a 12.86 ERA in three starts with the Biscuits.
