Rays Could Activate Patiño This Weekend, Archer Shut Down For A Couple Of Days
Rays manager Kevin Cash said Wednesday that pitcher Luis Patino, who has been on the injured list for a laceration on his right middle finger, could be close to returning after throwing a side session during the team’s road series against the Blue Jays over the weekend and another side session today at Tropicana Field.
“We’ll see where he’s at,” Cash said before Wednesday’s game. “Workload, we got him up to the 80 pitch mark. Kyle [Snyder] and I will talk with Erik [Neander] and figure out what’s best for him going forward, if there’s a pitch limitation, and see where we’ll go from there.”
But pitcher Chris Archer, coming back from lateral forearm tightness, had to be shut back down for a couple of days, and is scheduled to again play catch either Friday or Saturday.
“Some of the exercises that he was doing probably, I think Arch recognizes he was doing a little bit too much,” Cash said. “It was aggravating and just not bouncing back as much as he would like.”
